Zihan Pengmei earned his dual BS degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering this month. With everyone in the group now vaccinated, we were finally able to celebrate in person again! Zihan will pursue his PhD in Chemistry at University of Chicago this fall.
We congratulate James (JT) Moore for a successful defense on:
"Leveraging Polarized Metal-Metal Bonds for Catalytic Hydrodefluorination via Thermal and Photolytic Pathways".
The group celebrated on Zoom after the defense. The cake decoration was directly inspired by his chemistry!
Bianca Ramirez successfully defended her PhD thesis on "Tuning Nickel Electronics and Hydrogenation Reactivity via Dative Bonds with Rare Earth Metalloligands."
Bianca will join Jaqueline Kiplinger's research group at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a post-doctoral researcher.
After the Zoom defense, the group and friends gathered for an outdoor physically distanced barbecue with a strawberry cake made by Samantha.
Congratulations to Sai for a successful PhD defense of "Bimetallic Active Site in Metal-Organic Frameworks: Harnessing Bimetallic Cooperativity for Chemoselective Transformations."
Sai will be joining Los Alamos National Laboratory as a post-doctoral scholar in the group of Dr. Andrew Sutton.
The group celebrated on Zoom with a memorable cake by Samantha.
Congratulations to Matt Vollmer for a successful PhD defense of "Exploring Small Molecule Reactivity with Low-Valent Nickel and Cobalt Complexes Supported by Lewis Acidic Metalloligands."
The group and friends celebrated with Matt before bidding him farewell. Matt is starting a job at Stepan Company in Chicago.
